Fey wrote the playbook for the Broadway adaptation and also scribed the original hit movie.
She based the film script on Rosalind Wiseman’s 2002 book Queen Bees and Wannabes, which focused on the patterns of behavior within teenage girls.
The core story of Mean Girls – both the 2004 film and the 2018 Broadway play – revolves around high school rookie Cady Heron, who moves into a new town and falls in with a popular clique of girls known as The Plastics, led by the vicious queen bee Regina George.
The 2004 cast was memorably fronted by Lindsay Lohan, 36, and it is widely considered to be the pinnacle of her rocky career, at least thus far.
The film also launched Rachel McAdams, 44, Lacy Chabert, 40, and Amanda Seyfried, 37.
McAdams and Seyfried have since gone on to nab multiple Oscar nominations while Chabert has risen to become one of Hallmark’s top stars, appearing in over 30 films for the network.
