A cheeky hit mocking Victoria Premier Dan Andrews lockdown rules is a front runner nominee in the Most Performed Dance Track category at the Australian APRA Awards.
Created by duo Adam Morris and Matthew James, who perform under the name Mashd n Kutcher, ‘Get on the Beers’ used sound bites from Andrews’ March 2020 press conference when the Covid pandemic first hit Australia.
‘The pub is shut. That doesn’t mean you can have all your mates around to (your) home and get on the beers,’ are mixed into the catchy tune.

Released in October 2020, Get on The Beers won instant acclaim and was certified Gold in November.
Andrews himself introduced the track to Triple J listeners when it scored number 12 on the Youth network’s Hottest 100.
Meanwhile, The Kid Laroi – real name is Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard – leads the APRA nominations, scoring four nods, including Best Song for his two-billion stream hit Stay, a collaboration with Justin Bieber.
‘All my music is just taken from stuff around me, my experiences and stuff that,’ the 18 year-old rapper said of his hit.

Best Song, voted by industry peers, is probably the most coveted of APRA awards.
Veteran rocker Rob Hirst has scored a nomination in the category for his song First Nation, performed by Midnight Oil.

Midnight Oil drummer and founder, Hirst, 66, collaborated on the tune, a plea for reconciliation, with rapper Tasman Keith and Jessica Mauboy.
Also nominated for Best Song is Red Room by Grammy nominee Hiatus Kaiyote, Guided by Angels by punk rockers Amyl and the Sniffers and The Other Black Dog by Genesis Owusu.
Other highlights among the nominees include Guy Sebastian, whose Love on Display is up for Most Performed Work.

Meanwhile Tones and I is competing in the same category with her hit song, Fly Away.
The 40th APRA Awards will handed out in a ceremony at Melbourne Town Hall co-hosted by TV personality Julia Zemiro and rapper Jerome Farrah on Tuesday May 3
